Upcoming GUUMON x friends Kaiju Mashup 2013 show!

Here are a couple of flyers from the upcoming Kaiju Mashup 2013 show, which will include figures by GUUMON, Blobpus, MVH, and Max Toy!

The show, being held in Space 102 East at the Design Festa Gallery in Harajuku, opens on July 24 and runs through the 27th. Should be a good one!

Mechavirus Show at Rampage Studios

 A new show, featuring customs by Todd Robertson, opened today at Rampage Studios in Tokyo. It was a really fun show to cover - thanks Todd for making toys that are so fun to photograph!

New GUUMON figure: Bangagon + DirtyBit

GUUMON Vinyl Labs is hard at work on a new edition to their sofubi family: Bangagon. I should say new editions, as Bangagon, a studly fellow standing strong at 9.5" (and who will fit in very nicely with other members of the GUUMON sofubi enclave) comes with a companion figure: DirtyBit. Don't you just love that name - sounds like something from a Little Rascals movie.

But DirtyBit is no ordinary sidekick. He's no pansy or toady. Hell no! The clam kaiju is used as a weapon by Bangagon, creating a symbiotic relationship between the two. Not sure what DirtyBit gets from the arrangement - first dibs on their victims' fleshy parts?

Here are a couple of tantalizing pics of the figures in development.

No word yet on when the debut versions will be released, but le mot dans la rue is that they'll be sold in Japan. Plus, we've heard that the dynamic outfit from beautiful New England has other new creations in the works. Looking forward to seeing those too.

Visit with GUUMON

Last night, I had the pleasure of taking the T to beautiful Jamaica Plain to visit with Brian Mahony, the mastermind behind GUUMON. I had a fantastic visit, and not only did Brian clue me in on all kinds of GUUMON news, but he sent over some awesome pics to share with everyone.

Let me start off by talking about Titanium, a new color application technique Brian is developing. It creates the appearance of an iridescent sheen flowing over a figure's contours. The effect is stunning. Here's a shot of the Titanium colorway applied to a Marusan Hedora:

As you can see, Brian has a TON of projects in the works.

Speaking of new projects, Brian has not one, two, but THREE new toys in development, two of which are scheduled for release this year and the third next year. He'll also be submitting 6 customs to the FOE gallery for their upcoming Monster Mayhem show, which opens on May 11.

But that's not all! Brian is also cranking the Euro scene dial to FULL TILT by curating an upcoming event in the Netherlands called "Nederland MonsterJam." The show, scheduled to be held in Amsterdam in July, will feature customs by 18 artists. Geweldig!

GUUMON x BLObPUS x Lulubell "Toxic Pink" Daigomi

Welcome to the third post in our Leap Year quadruple header.

Tomorrow (March 1) at high noon PST (GMT - 8 hrs), Lulubell Toy Bodega will be releasing a super-limited BLObPUS x GUUMON x Lulubell collab.

For the release, Kaji-san (BLObPUS) painted 10 GUUMON Daigomi's. Each one is signed on the foot. The figures are expected to be priced under $200.

This is a collab in the real spirit of the word, as the figure features a signature BLObPUS paint scheme (with a splash of the classic Hawaii palette) on pink vinyl, one of Lulubell's signature colors.

GUUMON solo show at KULTUREZ in Cambridge, MA

On January 13, overall good guy and friend of Kaiju Korner Brian Mahony will open a solo show of GUUMON toys at KULTUREZ, a clothing store in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA). The show will feature one-offs by a slew of top flight artists. Here's a sneak peek followed by the full press release:

 "GUUMON aka kaiju designer Brian Mahony is having a solo show of his figures in Cambridge Ma from January 13th thru February 4th.The opening night is this Friday 7:30 pm. The show venue is a modern hip hop/ graffiti oriented clothing store called KULTUREZ. There will be many new GUUMON one-offs as well as new handpaints and customs done by : BLObPUS,Shing Yin Kor, Jerry Gates, Mark Bently, and DLUX . Mahony got DUBMASHPRODUCTIONS to DJ the event, which shold make for a great fit. More info and pics about some of the figures can be seen on the GUUBLOG. Mahony will be at the show signing pieces and raffling off some Daigomi figures. Should be a great show."

GUUMON x Medicom dual releases

The Medicom sofubi parade keeps marching on. The vaunted toy maker just put up pre-order information for 2 very limited Halloween themed GUUMON exclusives.

The first is Halloween Daigomi. The figure, which stands 22 cm (8.7") tall, retails for 9800 yen.

This special Daigomi contains a green plush insert, called "Dai Ghost." According to Brian Mahony of GUUMON, the plush figure represents Daigomi's spirit.

Next up is a new Krunk, which Brian calls the "Halloween Virus Krunk." The base is a satin black finish, and the eyes are orange. Also standing at 22 cm (8.7"), Krunk retails for 8800 yen.

The packaged figures

A great piece of news for collectors is, unlike with many previous sofubi exclusives, Medicom will ship these overseas. Plus, they have ordering information in English.

The pre-order will be up through November 7. After that window closes, Medicom will follow up with each buyer via e-mail. (Those e-mails will be sent out by November 14.) If there are more orders than toys, Medicom will hold a lottery to determine buying eligibility.

Blobpus x GUUMON Custom Show

Today, a new show featuring figures and customs by Blobpus and GUUMON opened today at the Design Festa Gallery in Harajuku. The exhibit runs through August 4.

Notable was the debut appearance of the Enma Ollie. Kaji-san painted a slew of Enma one-offs for the event and showed off a sample of the debut production release, which is available for preorder on the Blobpus website now.

GUUMON also came out swinging with a grip of customs from Mr. GUUMON (Brian Mahony), Mark Nagata, Bob Conge, Dead Presidents, and a bunch more.
