Kamen Rider store promotion and DVD display

I don't know if there's a canonical holy trinity of tokusatsu properties, but if there is, they might well include Godzilla, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider. In terms of daily exposure in Japanese life, I'd say Kamen Rider may be the top draw - or maybe tied with Ultraman.

Anyway, here are two looks at just how pervasive these cultural icons are in day to day life. First, I snapped shots of a new promotion at a nearby 7-11, involving toys, glasses, pillows, and other assorted sundry. (Sorry these snaps are kind of ghetto - I had to be stealthy and quick - ninja blogger like.)

Now here's a look at the tokusatsu section of a DVD rental store. These areas tend to be dominated by Ultra and KR series. At this store, there are special end caps and other cutouts celebrating the evolution of the 40-year-old mega-series:

I still want to visit the giant Godzilla slide a couple hours outside of Tokyo, so I can climb into the belly of the beast and exit via the rear door. :p

  1. If you travel to the Godzilla slide,
you have to make sure someone takes
    photos of you on it.

I wish there was a Godzilla slide
    over here.

  2. Hah hah not sure about the photos, but it's a place I'd love to check out - especially in the springtime, since it's in the middle of a giant flower park.
