2012 Summer Wonder Festival proto toys #1: Melon Bear by Atelier G-1

At the 2012 Summer Wonder Festival, a large number of indie toy makers took the opportunity to preview upcoming figures. Most of them were original sculpts made with Fando, Sculpey, or other materials.

Over the next several days, I'll post pics and info on a number of those figures, starting here with Melon Bear by Atelier G-1:
Melon Bear, which stands at 6-7", is very well-sculpted and features a nice combination of smooth and textured surfaces.

Very nice doll eyes.

With the proportions, details, and head sculpting, the figure has a realistic quality - almost like a 3D CGI character.
 More after the jump:

This for me is the stand-out feature: an immaculately sculpted mouth. I had a hard time believing the mouth was all part of the head. Indeed it isn't....

The mouth is made up of two parts, each of which are sofubi. They simply pop in and look amazing.

Fantastic work

The maws of life. Or....Hey gimme my teeth back!
Melon Bear is slated to go into production soon. We may see it as soon as October's Super Festival. Looking forward to it!
