New sofubi dinosaur figures from Rampage Toys

What's up sofubi nation? I'm back in the saddle after a really nice trip to Taiwan.

It's always nice to be able to report on new toys, and it's especially cool when makers provide in development shots of the sculpts, protos, etc. Rampage Toys has three new figures in the pipeline. They draw on Jon's educational background in paleontology, so we'll have to take his word for it that the -clops, -pus, and -tops are all in the right place.

The figures are around 3" tall, and each has multiple parts, which is nice for figures of this size.

Here are individual looks at the sculpts, which are slotted for production very soon:

The State of the Sofubi World: Osaka

As the tide of the sofubi world ebbs and flows, I wanted to provide a look at the way things are in Osaka, from the perspective of the indy toy world.

First, Mandarake. This staple of all things in toydom does not hold up well in Japan's second largest city. There are two Mandarakes in Osaka: Umeda and Shinsaibashi, Both, as of this post, have very limited selections of indy sofubi, and the selection has been shrinking bit by bit over the last few years.

So let's move onto the shops that do have some nice offerings:

Psychedelia
Located in the Namba City shopping complex in Namba, this has long been a favorite with toy collectors. They have some nice stuff for sale, including Grody Shogun, Real Head, Dehara, etc:

Original sculpt, made from sculpey.

Peter Kato's Goldies resin series

Beautiful new resin releases from Peter Kato:

In his own words:

"They are called the  Goldies: made with an intense mixer of golden yellow clear resin & a drop of clear amber-ish gold this color-wave picks up light very nicely. I really love the intensity of the golden yellow...they feel like they were carved from fossilized amber."

Peter made eight pieces each of Kawako, FrightBite & Man-Nie.

Each figure will be $10 & will be sold on Peter's webshop this Thursday May 17th, 5pmish EST.

KK Reviews: Greasebat

Greasebat, designed by Jeff Lamm and produced by Monster Worship, is not only a faithful realization in sofubi of Jeff's line art, but also a very fun toy in its own right. From the excellent header card art, it's immediately obvious how well-sculpted the figure is - a 3D form that has leapt straight from line art to vinyl.

Let's start with a look at the packaging:
The figure is packaged in traditional bag/header style.

Classic rampaging monster art by Johnny Sampson.
