Night Bazaar release Yusei Majin

Released the other night in front of Cosmo Knight Alpha, in the middle of a big ass street bazaar.

Very few were sold - maybe 5 or so. You lined up but had to choose the right card out of a stack for a shot at buying the figure. All very carny.
It's called the Tohoku line Yusei Majin, represented by the green shinkansen toy train the figure comes with. (The first release came with a blue train named after another shinkansen line.)
Yusei Majin was on a spinning dais. Here are a couple more shots:

Blobpus x MVH Death Sludge Demon

Amazing Blobpus x MVH collab

I love the Blobpus metallic pallet. Also, with this release, Kaji-san used more of a gorgeous mother of pearl silver spray, which works really nicely with the GID base vinyl.
Looking forward to seeing more from the dynamic sofubi duo!
Here's an indoor look which brings out the metallics more.

Kaws x Medicom Star Wars Boba Fett release!

Today at OriginalFake, the new Kaws x Medicom Star Wars figure was released: Boba Fett! Everyone knew this was going to be a release for the ages, and I think it was incredibly well handled by the store's staff. But the sheer crush of people in line was staggering.
I've never seen anything like it. I got there and walked past the store and on and on, and then around a corner. I heard the line eventually snaked around a couple more streets. The tally was something like 1,600 people vying for around 400 figures (exact total not clear, but that's the number I've heard a lot).

Here's how the release was handled. You had to be in line by 9:00 AM. That entitled you to receive a lottery ticket in front of the store. There were two types of tickets. One was a rejection that basically said you were out of luck. The second type had a time frame on it (mine was 3:00-3:20 PM) with a lineup number on it (mine was 17). That meant you had to be at the store at 3:00 and line up according to your number.

However, having a time slot ticket was not a guarantee of receiving a figure. At 3:00, there were still figures available. But I heard they were gone by the 6:00 PM slot. So somewhere between 3:00 and 6:00, the figures sold out.

Luckily I was able to get one. Here are more pics of the figure, starting with the box:

Mark Nagata x Todd Robertson Custom Kaiju Negora Show

Through January 27, One Akiba is hosting a show featuring the customs of Mark Nagata and Todd Robertson. The Custom Kaiju Negora Show has already been extremely successful, with the majority of pieces already sold. But the figures are still there to check out in person.

In case you can't make it, here are pics I snapped today.

I'm surprised the Thor is the only one not yet sold. It's a beaut! Click here for more pics of these figures, which I snapped the other day.
Another glorious piece by Mark.Negora has gone henshin, turning into a remote controlled vehicle...

... driven by the mouse overlord!

Mark Nagata x Todd Robertson custom Negora show (partial) preview

I spotted these custom King Negoras by Mark Nagata the other day at the One Up Akiba shop. The day after tomorrow, Jan 20, the show opens with customs by Mark and Todd Robertson. Unfortunately when I was there Todd's pieces weren't up yet, so this preview is just a part of what will be sold at the show.

Super Festival 61 (スーパーフェスティバル61) Part 3: Mighty Jack Exhibition

Our final report from Super Festival 61 is a look at a special exhibition of Mighty Jack (マイティジャック) items. Mighty Jack was a TV show from the late 1960s, making it one of the earlier tokusatsu shows - buoyed perhaps by the Ultraman wave.

These types of exhibitions are regular at each SF, with toys, games, props, paperwork, and other related items. It's a nice inside look at what is usually a very fine collection of items.

Plastic masks like the one in the top left were made for a ton of different shows. One sometimes sees them displayed on the ceilings of toy shops.

Super Festival 61 (スーパーフェスティバル61) Part 2: Shirts, Shows, and Showcases!

Super Festival is a great show for a lot of reasons. Besides all the new toy releases (click here to check out the new indie toys from Super Festival 61) there are clothing releases, talk shows with luminaries from TV shows and movies, autograph sessions, and dealer tables.

Here's a look at some of those sides of SF 61.

First let's look at new T-shirts released by Bandai to coincide with the show's special guests:

Henshin Ninja Arashi

It's hard to catch in this image, but the silver areas are covered with glittery metallic specs. Very cool.

Super Festival 61 (スーパーフェスティバル61) Part 1: Indie Toys

Today's Super Festival, the first of 2013, saw an enthusiastic gathering of toy makers, new and vintage toy dealers, TV heroes, and fans.
It was a very nice, though chilly winter's morning in Tokyo.

The toy faithful arrived by 7:00 AM to get a lottery ticket to participate in the early morning sales.
Here's Part 1 of Kaiju Korner's SF 61 report: indie toys. The makers are arranged alphabetically.
